TitleFirst Business Lease electric car fitted with THE NEW MOTION battery monitoring

15-02-2011

Business Lease has requested that The New Motion monitors the battery of the very first Mitsubishi i-MiEV in the Netherlands, to reduce the total monthly cost of an electric car.

This will make it possible to monitor and optimise the ageing process of the battery, the most expensive component in an electric car, to further reduce the lease price of electric cars in the future. Business Lease believes in sustainable mobility at the lowest possible total cost. In the case of electric cars, the battery life has a big effect on these costs. This is why Business Lease, the very first company to lease a Mitsubishi i-MiEV in the Netherlands, has asked The New Motion to monitor this car with battery monitoring.

Cheaper driving with battery monitoring
Battery monitoring, developed by The New Motion, is a system built into electric cars that constantly monitors the battery. It measures the status of the battery and how it is being used.
This information is supplemented with monitoring data collected during the quick charging process. A network of quick chargers is currently being set up in the Netherlands by The New Motion, with the support of the DOEN Foundation. All the data is then input into a battery ageing model. Information about the battery ageing process is then sent to the owner and user of the electric car, together with tips on how to extend the battery life.

Carefree driving with battery monitoring
The New Motion has developed a handy smartphone application that provides the user with various kinds of information for carefree driving. Information received by the user includes the battery level, the number of kilometres that can be driven before recharging, the location of charge points, personal alerts and journey plans.

Business Lease gets grip on battery ageing
Business Lease is the first lease company to make use of this innovative system. The system has been built into a Mitsubishi i-MiEV – the first i-MiEV to drive in the Netherlands. Both Business Lease and the customer who is driving the i-MiEV can see the advantages of battery monitoring – a grip on battery ageing as well as the handy tools. It also helps both parties understand how electric cars are really used and what the effects on the battery are.

Battery monitoring available for various electric cars
Battery monitoring is currently available for the Citroën C-Zero, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the Peugeot iOn, the Tesla Roadster and the Think City. It will soon also be available for the Nissan Leaf.
